Punjab Launches Aggressive Property Sealing Drive Against Tax Defaulters

In a decisive move to enhance revenue collection and enforce tax compliance, Punjab has initiated a major property sealing campaign targeting tax defaulters across the province. Within the first two days of the drive, excise officials reported the sealing of 5,300 properties under the directive of Director General Excise Umar Sher Chatha.

Among these, 2,100 properties were sealed under the “Punjab Initiates Property Sealing” initiative, with defaulters in the city alone owing over Rs. 70 million in unpaid taxes. Province-wide, the total outstanding property taxes have surpassed Rs. 160 million.

The aggressive enforcement has already led to positive outcomes, with some defaulters settling their dues. In Lahore, approximately 300 properties were de-sealed after tax payments totaling Rs. 10 million. Across Punjab, 1,600 properties were reopened following recoveries of Rs. 25 million.

To drive effective recovery, Excise and Taxation Officers (ETOs) have been assigned stringent daily targets, with each officer expected to seal at least 150 properties. DG Excise Umar Sher Chatha emphasized the department’s commitment to recovering 80% of outstanding property taxes by the end of the month. The campaign primarily targets commercial, semi-commercial, and rental properties that have defaulted on their tax payments.

This crackdown marks one of Punjab’s most extensive enforcement efforts against tax evasion, underscoring the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards non-compliance. The initiative aims to strengthen the province’s financial stability by ensuring that tax contributions are collected efficiently and fairly.

Authorities are intensifying efforts to recover outstanding dues, sealing properties of persistent defaulters who have neglected their obligations despite repeated notices. The campaign is integral to broader strategies focused on enhancing infrastructure development and supporting public welfare projects.

The property sealing drive will continue until substantial recoveries are achieved. Taxpayers are urged to clear their dues promptly to avoid legal consequences and business disruptions. The Punjab government remains steadfast in its commitment to enforcing strict compliance measures, encouraging citizens to uphold their financial responsibilities for the greater good of the community.
